Trees 03:57
These trees turn black in winter and a sap runs through my veins/ All these decisions that I haven’t decided are just mistakes that I haven’t made/ You’ve come to read my mind, yes you’re in search of a subtle sign/ Did we go to bed yet? Has it even happened?/ You keep me in arrest/ You’re kissing kisses to attest/ Then you’re just a dream again/ And nothing ever happens/ I guess you’re the ending that I never saw coming on
2.
Star Cross'd 04:46
Oh man, you said a lot/ What a mouthful you said/ I’m gonna play my cards right this time/ I’m sorry, I suppose/ But no one needs to know/ If I play my cards right this time/ On the day the earth stood still/ There was a shot heard around the world/ It was supposed to send a message to me/ I saw spaceships on T.V./ I swear to God they were singing your name/ In a voice I recognized/ Now I hear voices in my head/ And the giant robot said that we were written in the stars/ But you don’t believe it/ You say you just can’t hang around while my head is in the clouds/ But I swear the sky fell down on the day that you left/ And on the day the earth stood still/ There was a silent shooting star/ It was supposed to send a message to wherever you are/ I saw spaceships on T.V./ I swear to God they were singing your name/ In a voice I recognized/ Please take me away, take me anywhere/ ‘Cause I don’t want to be here without you/ Please take me away/ I want to be with you/ Oh man you said a lot/ What a mouthful you said/ And if you know I’m sorry now...well as long as you know that/ I saw fairies in the headlights all along the ride home/ Yeah there were fairies in the headlights/ On the day the earth stood still/ There was a shot heard around the world/ It was supposed to send a message to me/ I saw spaceships on T.V./ I swear to God they were singing your name/ In a voice I recognized/ On the day the earth stood still/ I saw mermaids in the water but how was I supposed to tell you all the things that they told me/ They said that the prophets did declare and it’s written down somewhere/ That our stars were cross’d up there before the day that you were born/ I want to be with you
3.
I’m not sad no not about, I’m not mad no it’s not about, no I’m not sad not about you / I’m not sad no not about, I’m not mad no it’s not about, no I’m not scared not about you / Cause I always get just what I want and I don’t care much about what I want/ Sometimes I don’t know what I want / Breakdown alone inside again and I’m not scared of trouble now / Breakdown and I will show you how to set it up...and knock it down/ I’m not sad no not about, I’m not mad no it’s not about, no I’m not scared not about you / It’s a pussy cat and a power-puff/ I get what I want but it’s not enough/ No it’s not enough but it’s not about you/ Cause I always get just what I want/ I couldn’t give a shit about what I want/ You know it’s the sad truth about what I want/ Breakdown alone inside again and I’m not scared of trouble now / Breakdown and I will show you how to set it up...and knock it down/ Breakdown and you can call me Daddy, begging please Daddy, please let me have it/ I’m not sad no not about, I’m not mad no it’s not about, no I’m not scared not about you/ Cause I always get just what I want/ I couldn’t give a shit about what I want/ You know it’s the sad truth about what I want/
4.
Her Heart 03:13
Sinking in, how it all came and went again/ How could I forget?/ How could I care less?/ Deciding that we never meant the secrets that we never kept/ On and On, from Cheat Mountain, gone and left behind Bradywine/ So set aside your Bradywine eyes, you know I’ll never be satisfied/ I know you and you’ll say that It’s just not the same since we went away/ It’s all left behind now/ But her heart says anything that she wants it to/ And when she says “I’ve been torn in two a thousand times more than you‘d know.”/ Well, you should know/ Deciding that we never meant the secrets that we never kept/ I know you, I know just where you think that this is going to/ It’s all left behind now/ I know you and you’ll say that it’s just not the same since we moved away/ But her heart says anything she wants it to.
5.
Now there’s something that I’d like to tell you, then maybe you’ll go away/ I’m a sucker for dead meat and pheromones and anything you throw away/ Yeah, nothing here goes to waste/ I don’t want you tell me you love me, I just want you leave me alone/ I don’t need you to tell me that you want me, I really just want to fuck and go home/ Now there’s something that I’ve got to tell you, then maybe you’ll go away/ Eventually something feeds on the body, the longer that you let it lay/ Yeah, nothing here goes to waste/ Breed. Hiss. Decay/ I don’t want you tell me you love me, I just want you leave me alone/ I don’t need you to tell me that you want me, I really just want to fuck and go home/
6.
Sleepyhead 03:04
You’ve been gone for so long, I can’t seem to sleep tonight/, don’t go and leave me alone again here/ You lay in the bed so sleepyhead, let’s put a real man in your shoes and see what happens to you/ You don’t, don’t, don’t/ I may be young and you may be cool but I’m aware of what goes down in my town/ And yes, I know that this is your home but I’m going down and we both know that you’ll save your time and slip away again/ Don’t lie to me, you don’t lie to me/ Don’t, don’t lie to me/ If you never want to say goodbye, don’t lie to me
7.
I’m not waiting for you this time and you’re not saying what’s on your mind/ But I tasted every word in your mouth/ And now there’s no use waiting around for you to spit it out/ By next Christmas baby, you will forget about me/ I got the letter that made your intentions clear/ Yeah, it was signed with Love... and Better Luck next year/ But I’m not waiting, no I won’t hesitate/ Cause now I’m not crying, I’m spitting up blood/ and I’m not just trying to make this tough on you/ Please, what did you mean when you said to me/ By next Christmas baby, you will forget about me/ You will forget about Christmas/ By this time next year, my darling dear, I’ll be a memory/ Now every Christmas song I hear is signed with Love...and Better Luck next year/ Cause now I’m not crying, I’m spitting up blood/ and I’m not just trying to make this tough on you/ On you please, what did you mean when you promised me/ You will forget about Christmas/ You will forget about me/ Please make no mistake with all the drugs you take and all the songs you sing/ By next Christmas Ill be shooting up with the angels among the stars/ Yeah, I'll own the stars
8.
Look at my eyes, I can’t stay awake/ You see these things but they are not real/ Hold me closer now, it’s where I want to be/ All my senses are going fast/ Is this the sign of a wasted life?/ Well, it might be time to say goodnight/ These days are kissing and bitchin’ spent and now there’s a sense that it’s closing in/ Yeah it’s closing in/ I’m giving up, I’m not ready yet/ If there’s a sweetness inside I might never find what might be mine/ You think that everyone is poison/ On the lips and under, just to get to you/ I can’t see a way around this Glorious & Gloom/ Maybe this is what makes you so beautiful/ These days are kissing and bitchin’ spent/ Now there’s a sense that it’s closing in/ Yeah it’s closing in/ Yours is a hold that cannot be shook/ And given time, I might be ready to never find I’m not ready now/ You think that everyone is poison/ On the lips and under, just to get to you/ You make me want to sing, waking up screaming/ Sad and so alone/ Now these days are kissing and bitchin’ , Glorious & Gloom
9.
Wicked 02:52
I was bitten by a spider, she was a black and lovely thing/ She dragged me straight away to Heaven and now when I get weak/ She picks me up and takes me by the hand and bleeds me ‘til I’m dry/ With sugar sweet and wicked kisses that make me sick inside/ She sings all the songs that I used to know, but I don’t sing them any more/ I fell in love with a spider when she came along to me/ So sad and lonely and dangerous and that’s the way she’ll always be/ I know that soon she will be gone from here, but always on my mind/ And she will leave me to wallow in her poison with black, un-sorry angel eyes/ And when it starts to burn, I bury my regrets/ She fills me with comfort and rest/ She cries all the time now, the morning and the night/ Yeah I’m in love and I’m sick inside/ I fell in love with a spider, but she won’t belong to me/ So sad and lonely and dangerous and that’s the way she’ll always be/ And when it starts to burn, I bury my regrets/ She fills me with comfort and rest/ She sings all the songs that I used to know, but I don’t sing them any more/ I fell in love with a spider
10.
You’re never on my side, if winter comes and I can’t keep you warm/ Your moment has begun, your shiny morning in the sun/ And all across the universe, forgetting stars, if I could let you run/ We’d run ‘til we got caught and sing the songs that we forgot/ Let’s sing the songs that we forgot again/ And I wave as the cars pass by on this shiny morning/ When your moment has begun, it’s been a long time coming on.../ I forgot I knew this place/ I faded out to black without a sound/ Morning run around, we wake up when we come down/ And all across the universe, if I could let you run/ We’d run ‘til we got caught and sing the songs that we forgot/ Let’s sing the songs that we forgot again/ And I wave as the cars pass by on this shiny morning/ When your moment has begun, it’s been a long time coming on.../Let’s run ‘til we get caught and sing the songs that we forgot/ Let’s sing the songs that we forgot again/ And I wave as the cars pass by on this shiny morning/ When your moment has begun, it’s been a long time coming on...
11.
I have waited such a long time for the promise that you made/ you are mine to cradle, you are mine/ I have waited such a long time and the Devil is my friend/ You are mine to cradle, you are mine/ You are mine and the Devil is my friend/ You are mine to cradle, you are mine/ I have waited such a long time and the Devil knows my name/ You are my one time thing, you are mine/ I have waited such a long time and the Devil told you that!/ You are mine to cradle, you are mine/ You are mine and the Devil knows my name/ You are my one time thing/ You are mine / Ohhh..../ My name’s got a potion on it/ If you can guess, I’ll tear myself in two/ Yeah, my name’s got a potion on it/ Goddamn my name

about

EARWIG’S GIBSON UNDER MOUNTAIN

Many bands come and go in the annuls of Indie Rock but few leave their mark …or anything of real artistic substance for that matter. But even minor-league fame is fleeting.

Enter midwestern Indie Rock heroes Earwig.

“Every so often a band comes along that changes your life. Earwig is that band. They are one of the best underground bands in America today.” – Chattanooga Free Press.

Earwig’s reckless rock is unsung by the mainstream, they are the underground’s best kept secret. There are those who think that Earwig is just “…that band from Ohio that writes great songs but never got famous.” Certainly there’s a bit more to it than that but there’s also a kernel of truth to that statement. The band has consistently toured and released forward-sounding music since their inception in 1992. Earwig has always held a rabid, select fan-base and the band’s albums have all met with critical adulation but they have never reached beyond cult status. The fact that the band survived the indie-rock major label signing frenzy of the late 90’s with their integrity intact and, despite the odds, continued to make great records left them with no reason to rest on their laurels. Earwig has continued to evolve, to grow artistically and they’re currently at work on a new record for 2018.

It can be argued that 2011’s GIBSON UNDER MOUNTAIN is a grand culmination of all of the Earwig recordings that came before it. The album was criminally under-promoted and it is held to be one of the band’s best albums by those fans “in the know”. Despite that acclaim it remains Earwig’s least-selling and one of their lesser-known releases. With it’s radio-ready mixes (courtesy of Mike Landolt, mixer/producer Maroon 5, Spin Doctors) and an excess of crunchy hit singles, this collection should have been the band’s break-out album by any measure. As it is the album stands as a glorious high-water mark, a stupendous achievement for a largely unknown underground rock group and a tribute to a band that never surrendered.
